Who wouldn't want to live here?
Earlier this year I took a huge step and applied for the Disney college program. For those of you who don't know what that is , It's an internship in either Walt Disney World OR Disney Land. You apply online and if they think you are a good match you take an online interview[Which was a series of personality based questions].
Once that's completely they select the people that they think are a good Disney fit and you are selected to do the phone interview.
Now the phone interview was really interested. I got Lora as my interviewer.
My interview was scheduled for March 5th at 12pm. Now Disney warns you that you should give your self 15 minutes before your scheduled time, and 15 minutes after that time. Now because my interview was at 12pm I could have received the call at 11:45am or 12:15pm.
Thankfully, they called me right at 12pm, and I was on the phone until around 12:45pm almost 1pm. They go over all the choices you selected for the jobs you would be interested in doing while down there.
My top three choices were:
1.) Attractions
2.) The bibbidi bobbidi boutique
3.) Merchandising
They go through what all of your tops roles entail, but they also warn you that just because these are where you would like to go...it doesn't mean you will end up there. Thousands of people apply for this each year and not everyone can do the same thing. So have an open mind if you don't get into the position you wanted. This is a life changing event.
After they go over all the role details they ask you a series of questions based on your choices
An example would be:
"If you were placed in attractions how would you handle a situation where a child didn't meet the height requirement?"
OR
"What would you tell a child if they asked how Mickey could be at a show in Epcot and Magic Kingdom at the same time?"
BUT...The most IMPORTANT question they ask you, and the question I recommend you actually really think over is
Why do you want to work at Disney world?
What influenced you to apply for this?
Think good and hard, because your answer to this question could make or break you.
After the phone interview they tell you in two-too-three weeks you will be notified about your acceptance.
In my case, I received an email EXACTLY one week later.
There you have it, I was accepted. At the time I didn't know the position because you have to follow a link in the email. But I was so excited I could barely contain myself.
In the end, I was accepted for the role of merchandising. Which I am 100% okay with. I actually would have been okay with any role.
After you are accepted you have one week to accept Disney offer. This entails a $300 payment too them, but some other small charges (I think it came out to $304.56) Which in non-refundable.
After that you get an email asking you to selected you arrival dates.
Don't get to excited you don't really have free range of dates.
My only opinions were May 12(which is the start of my finals week) OR May 19th, which is the following Monday.
These were my only choices because of the role I was placed in, and the fact the I applied for the fall advantage program which is mid-May or early-June until January.
I am flying down, against my wishes, because I wanted to have my car down there. But in the longer run because I am from New York it would be sooo much cheaper just to fly down there. So my parent will just ship me whatever I need after I know my exact address.
I've watched hundreds of YouTube videos on what to bring with me, or what to expect when I get there.
and everyone has different views on what you should pack to bring with you. So I recommend that you also look into that. Disney does give you a list...but it is not very detailed so study up.
They provide housing, there's four apartment complexes, and you could end up with any where from 3-7 other roommates because they over 2 bed room apartments with 2 people per room all the way up to four bedroom apartments with 2 people per room.
I know this is a lot to take in, so that's probably all for now, but I do plan to keep this blog up the whole time I am down there.
Oh, one more thing. Make sure you pack at least one "dress" outfit for the traditions class you HAVE to go to the day after you get there.
If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments.
Have a Magical Disney day everyone.
Kayla!
