Disney College Program Bucket List

Okay, so as promised this is going to be my bucket list! No, it's not finished, but there is a lot of things on here.

1.) Get into the Disney College Program.
2.) See "The magic, the memories, and you" Show at Cinderella Castle.
3.) Eat at Chef Mickey's
4.) Walk down Main Street
5.)Make a wish at Cinderella's wishing well
6.)Eat an entire kitchen sick with friends at the Beaches and Cream Soda Shop
7.)See Magic Kingdom all dressed up for Halloween
8.)See the Castle covered in lights at Christmas time.
9.) Go to Gaston's Tavern in New Fantasy Land
10.)Ride Splash Mountain
11.)Eat a Dolewhip
12.)Go to Epcots food and wine festival
13.)Eat a Mickey Bar
14.)Take my family to Disney World
15.) Get a Picture with all the Characters
16.)Go to Star Wars weekend
17.)Try the tye-dye cheesecake at pop century
18.)Attend Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
19.)Do all four parks in one day
20.)Find the Hidden Mickeys.
21.) Eat a Turkey leg
22.) Send my friends and family at least one post card.

So that's my generic bucket list, not yet completed, so I am open to ideas.
Realizing that I have 13 days left at my current job is making me so excited. What tops that off is that out of those 13 days, I will only work like 7 of them...Because I only work Thursday-Sunday so that's four days..in 13 days I couldn't possibly work more than 7 days. So EXCITING!!!

It's getting to the point where people who has selected roommates are trying to figure out who can bring what, and what everyone is going to buy, and all the things that are going to make living together just a little bit better.

I myself couldn't be happier with the girls that are going to be my roommates we get along wonderfully and talk all the time. I already love them and cannot wait to meet them!

We did have an incident with a couple girls we were going to live with, originally its was six of us. Now it's just four of us, which is perfectly okay, things didn't end up working out with the two other girls and that's fine. They found amazing roommates to live with. This is going to be our family for the next nine months you want to make sure you end up living with girls you know you are going to be able to get along with. It would ruin some of the magic if you hated your roommates.

There's so much exploring and adventuring to be done with my roommates we are always going to be on the move! Couldn't be happier!

Until next time,
Have a Magical Day.

24 Days

Can you believe it? For those of us arriving on May 19th we only have 24 DAYS. Count them with me, 1-2-3-4-5....Nevermind that will take WAYYYYYY to long.
But seriously, our journey starts in 24 short days, that's like three weeks.
But for me, probably like many of you, don't have time to celebrate...Because I have class/finals up until May 15th...And then it's all packing and saying goodbye to my family and friends.

I can't wait to meet everyone, all of my roommates and the friends I have made on the facebook pages:
Disney Fall/Fall Advantage Page
Disney Fall Advantage(only) Page
Disney May 19th Arrivals Page
Disney Fall/Fall Advantage Merchandise
Everything related to DCP

So those are the links to the several Disney FB pages I am on, no that's not all of them...There are dozens of then floating around, for almost every arrival date/role/favorite character...there's just a lot of them.

I personally don't post a lot on there, there have been a lot of petty fights, and name calling. This isn't highschool, we are adults and we are going to DISNEY WORLD....BE HAPPY PEOPLE.

It drives me crazy that everyone is picking fights, soon we will all be in one place and no one will say anything to anyone for real for the fear of being termed. So why say it now? Don't.

Seriously though, has anyone else started making a Bucket List? I know I have, having never been to Disney myself though it's mainly based off things many people have told me I MUST do.
So what's on your list? and if you have been and want to share some of the incite on what I should put on mine feel free to comment!
You can also find me on FaceBook at My personal Facebook

You can also find me on :
Instagram: @Kaylamariee00017
Twitter: @Kaylamariee0017

I'd love to get to know each and every single one of you!

I may be posting my bucket list the closer it gets to arrival day, and some more packing tips...because boy oh boy am I having a hard time narrowing down those several lists of things I need to pack.

Let me know if you have any questions! This may be my first program, but I have several friends that are alumni.

Until next time.
Have a Magical Day.

Counting Down

As the days get closer I find myself getting more and more nervous. Not to meet the 5 lovely girls I call my roommates, I am truly so lucky I found them. But for all the changes I have to make in my life as the departure dates gets closer.
All the stress I am putting on myself when it comes to my classes and grades. Even though I know it took a huge chunk of stress off of my too un-enroll myself from SUNY Oswego for the next semester.
Change is sometimes a good thing, right?

I'm changing my eating habits, Good.
I'm changing the amount of water I drink, Good.
I'm changing my hair to fit the Disney look, Not good for me.

But I think what's getting to me the most is that fact that I will be a 21 hour drive away from my family...

Every day now when I leave for work I think to myself "There's only (insert number) of days left until I won't see this view for 8 and 1/2 months.

That's a morbid way of looking at it, I know.

But I am excited, sooooo excited. I can't wait to meet everyone and do everything on my bucket list.

Have a Magical Disney Day.

Roommates!

At first I thought that filling out the "roommate survey" was pointless, all you need to do it talk to people I told myself. Haha, but I did fill it out and I am glad I did. Because I found the girl I will be sharing a room with for 8 months. EIGHT months. And honestly, I love her already.

When my friends at home asked me what she was like I simply replied "Me, with red hair." We get a long great.

Finding someone like her took the stress right out of this whole thing!

But, we soon found 3 more girls to live with, and I love them all! We formed a mini family instantly last night over Google+ hangout.

I am sooo excited now, it's actually getting to be sooo real! Like in 38 days I will be landing in Orlando!
and the following day I enter the check-in process!

As a turn of events though, I was supposed be taking 12 credit hours worth of online courses while down there. I decided it was best for me, overall, to take next semester off. Clear my head, and enjoy myself.

I'm not worried about re-enrolling back to my school. Hell...I am not even sure if I want to return to the college I am currently at.

I can't wait to meet you all!

Have a Magical Disney Day!

Tattoos

I love tattoo, I have three. It's driving me nuts that I will have to cover them every single time I have too work. It's a lot of work to cover them.

But here's a before and after photo of my most recent make up attempt!
It reads " Curiosity often leads to trouble" it's from Alice in Wonderland!
So here's what I used, and I am really good with makeup guys...My point in saying that is these products will not work for everyone and they take a lot of patience!

Here's what I use:
Hard Candy Primer (you can find this at walmart)
Hard Candy Glamoflauge - this is designed to cover tattoos, just make sure you follow instructions (also found at walmart $6.00)
A pressed Matte foundation to lock into place. I use dream Matte.

and either a setting spray or your regular old run of the mill hairspray to keep it all set into place.

Find the right skin tone also factors into how well this will turn out for you!

Good Luck!

if you have any questions feel free to contact me!!

A late introduction?

It occurred to me throughout my short blogging career on here that I haven't really introduced myself.
And I know in the previous blog I posted the "My roommate survey." But that really only tells you what I am like to live with, if it even tells you that at all.

So here's a little bit about myself.
I'm 20, I will be turning 21 whilst on my journey through the DCP fall advantage program.
I am not an only child, I actually have a lot of siblings. A lot.

On my mom's side:
One older Brother, Jeremy.

Her boyfriend/fiancé:
One younger step-brother, Aaron.
Two younger step-sister: Amanda and Nicole.

On My Dad's side:
One older sister, Danielle.
One older brother, Josh
One younger sister, MiKayla
One younger brother, Austin.

My dad's wife also has two kids...that I have yet to meet. Because him and I are not super close. Okay, we aren't close at all.

I'm a Zoology major at SUNY Oswego, It's my junior year right now.
I eventually want to go on to grad school to major in marine biology.
I want to work with injured dolphins, and help rehabilitate them back into wild.

I want to live in Florida, so I am hoping this trip makes me fall even more in love with the area.

I think what I am going to miss the most is my family (Obviously), but my best friends, and more importantly my Puppy-dog and Kitten.

I think the most stressful thing about this is that I won't know anyone down there. I'm not too overly worried about it, because I make friends quickly. It's just being in a new place, away from your family, with people you have never met is a little scary.

what are some of your fears about this new experience?

Kayla.

Roommates.

I don't know about the rest of you, but...

I have never lived any where but home. Even through my first three years of college. I choose to live off campus, to help with my grades.

So, I don't know about you but I am really nervous about getting there and not liking the people they put me with. I doubt it will happen that way. But what if it does?
What if I try my hardest to like them and I don't?

So instead of being randomly placed, I want to find some people to get to know and room with them. It takes most of the stressors right out of this equation.

I just don't know how to go about finding roommates.
I've seen a lot of people posting "roommate surveys" to the Disney College Program Fall/Fall Advanced Facebook page.( Disney College Program FB Page )

My Role in this whole magical experience

Merchandising.
I could be placed in any of the four parks, any of the Disney resorts, downtown Disney, or even the board walk.
I'd be responsible for
*Demonstrating and selling merchandise in indoor or outdoor areas
*Cash handling- both manual or using computerized registers
*Stocking and cleaning shelves and/or carts
*Receiving and putting away stock or deliveries
*Stroller and/or wheelchair rentals - including repetitive lifting and stacking.
*Perpetration of food/candy
*Selling of alcohol and tobacco
*Providing information to guests.
*Approaching guest with conversation
*preparing/packing shipments for delivery
*Working independently or as part of a team.
*Standing for extend periods or working outside.

In my day to day life right now I am a cashier, so this will be a change on scenery not pace. I'm used to working with people everyday, and engaging with them.

It's not about what I do now though, it's about what I will do in the future. Dreaming has paid off, a dream is a wish your heart makes after all.

If you want to know more about the other roles, please leave a comment below! I will be happy to answer them!

I'm getting really excited!
I'm a little nervous about rooming with people I don't know. So here's to hoping I can met and talk to some people before hand.

Have a Magical Disney Day!

Packing, easy tips and how toos

I know I've been talking a lot about packing, but if you are flying down a lot of these will come in handy.

So here's some tips:

Use a button to keep pairs of earring together

Roll clothes, never fold, up into bundles and then secure with elastic bands.

Use an empty pill bottle to store small amounts of hair products and lotions

Pill bottles can also be used to hold Q-tips

Afraid your shampoos and conditioners will leak in your checked bag? Fear no more. Plastic wrap over the opening(s) of the toiletries will help prevent leaking.

Ensure that your necklaces stay tangled-free on your journey but threading them through drinking straws

I hate packing makeup, all of my powder makeup ends up shattered, but here is a trick. Put a cotton ball/pad in the case to prevent breaking.

I hope you guys find these helpful.

Have a magical day

Kayla.

Flying

Hello everyone!

Just a little update from me!

I've never put much thought into how hard it would be to fly with so much stuff to bring. It's really stressful. I have 42 days to get ready so we are trying to make sure everything will fit in the one suit case I have and the one carry on bag I have...and well yeah..no. That did not work at all. So now, I have two huge suit cases and two carry on bags (My mom is going to they are "her" bags)

I still don't think it will work, and like mentioned in my last post, I have very detailed lists of what absolutely needs to be pack and what I can wait and buy when I get down there, and what I will just have my parents ship. I guess I never thought about how much stuff I would need over the course of nine months.

We just set a date for my going away party, and I am praying my older brother comes through and buys me a new camera so that I an start a YouTube Vlog while I am down there.

Hope everyone is super excited! Because I am!

Super excited to meet everyone.

Have a magical Disney day!

T-43 Days

My arrival date is in exactly 43 days!!!!
*insert excited screaming here*

But in all seriousness I'm getting really nervous. Did I mention I leave right after my finals week guys? Like whoa. Talk about rushing me out.

But in this post I am going to make a couple list(s) for you guys.
*What to pack(mainly applies to people flying)
*What to have shipped
*What to buy when you are there.

SO my lists are kind of long, I am not going to lie you. I like clothes and shoes entirely too much, so packing for this is/has/will be a huge pain for me.
But lets get started:

Before we get started one last thing, on the Disney Pre-arrival check list it tells you to bring a form of documentation from list A, if you don't have those it gives you the options to bring one item from list B and one item from list C.
I can not stress enough that you NEED to have one of theses forms with you, it proves you ability to work, they are you work documents. You NEED to have them. Shove them in you wallet the night before you leave and don't take them out until check in. You NEED them!

What to pack:
Business causal clothes - can't stress this enough, you will need them for tradtions, and from everything I have read if you are planning to take classes down there you will need them then too.
Shorts - You are going to be down there for a while so make sure you bring enough.
Shirts/Tank tops - again, make sure you bring enough. (You can always have extra shipped down to you)
Shoes - they don't tell you the type of shoes you will need for you specific placement until check in, but they do give you time to obtain them. But you should bring shoes you enjoy. comfy shoes. Sneakers, sandals, flip flops. Even if they can't be worn when you are working you are an 18-20 something year old who will have days off and want to explore.
Jeans - I know what you are thinking, Jeans? But it's Florida. Trust me, it may be hotter than the fire gates of hell during the day but they do get really cold nights occasionally.
Sweatshrts/hoodies/jackets- Again, they do have cold days/nights and it does tend to be very rainy down there too.
SwimWear - Each apartment complex has a pool, and there are water parks around.
Electronics - Like your computer, kindles, cameras, cell phones, ipods, dvd player, gaming devices, TVs. Keep in mind, that there are no TV jacks in the bed rooms, there is ONE in the common room of each apartment. So if you do pick your roommates I suggest someone that is driving bring their tv and everyone else can contribute DVDs. PHONE CHARGERS. ALL CHARGERS.
Accessories -  Jewelry (Which is not allowed on the job), headbands, bobby pins, hair ties, scarfs, wallets, purses, backpacks.
Photos - Of your family, friends, and pets. You are going to be gone awhile and everyone gets homesick from time to time.
Bathroom supplies - Shampoo, conditioner, loofa, tooth brush and paste, make up, perfume, deodorant, contact solution, body wash, and lotions. ( If you are flying, most of this should go on the buy once you get down there list.)
Bedding - Pillows, sheets, blankets. (they are not provided, everyone also recommends a mattress pad...I guess the beds suck)

Have Shipped:
*Blenders
*Coffee makers (if you drink coffee, they don't provide one..sooo)
*Toasters
*Any DVDs you didn't have room to pack
*Books.
*Extra clothes

Buy Down there: - You will have time to shop after you have unpacked and gotten settled.
*Combination lock, for you apartment locker.
*Food.
*Drinks
*Work shoes
*Any bathroom supplies you were unable to bring
*Bedding - if you are flying it will be really hard to bring bedding with you

Those are pretty basics lists of the things you should consider packing. I myself, like mentioned, have much more detailed lists catered to my needs. But these can be changed.

One more thing, if you want to direct deposit remember to bring a black void check with you to check in. If you fail to do so they will give you a pay roll card that works pretty much like a pre-paid credit card.

Also, you might want to consider playing mission: time keeper, I learned a lot that I didn't know. Even though it too FOREVER it was still valuable information about Disney.

I am soooo excited to meet everyone that is going down!! Again, my arrival date is Monday May 19th.
This is an adventure I cannot wait to start.

I've met a couple people via Instagram and Twitter! So I will leave my screen names below.

Disney College Program

Who wouldn't want to live here?

Earlier this year I took a huge step and applied for the Disney college program. For those of you who don't know what that is , It's an internship in either Walt Disney World OR Disney Land. You apply online and if they think you are a good match you take an online interview[Which was a series of personality based questions].
Once that's completely they select the people that they think are a good Disney fit and you are selected to do the phone interview.

Now the phone interview was really interested. I got Lora as my interviewer.

My interview was scheduled for March 5th at 12pm. Now Disney warns you that you should give your self 15 minutes before your scheduled time, and 15 minutes after that time. Now because my interview was at 12pm I could have received the call at 11:45am or 12:15pm.

Thankfully, they called me right at 12pm, and I was on the phone until around 12:45pm almost 1pm. They go over all the choices you selected for the jobs you would be interested in doing while down there.
My top three choices were:
1.) Attractions
2.) The bibbidi bobbidi boutique
3.) Merchandising

They go through what all of your tops roles entail, but they also warn you that just because these are where you would like to go...it doesn't mean you will end up there. Thousands of people apply for this each year and not everyone can do the same thing. So have an open mind if you don't get into the position you wanted. This is a life changing event.

After they go over all the role details they ask you a series of questions based on your choices

An example would be:
"If you were placed in attractions how would you handle a situation where a child didn't meet the height requirement?"
OR
"What would you tell a child if they asked how Mickey could be at a show in Epcot and Magic Kingdom at the same time?"

BUT...The most IMPORTANT question they ask you, and the question I recommend you actually really think over is

Why do you want to work at Disney world?
What influenced you to apply for this?

Think good and hard, because your answer to this question could make or break you.

After the phone interview they tell you in two-too-three weeks you will be notified about your acceptance.
In my case, I received an email EXACTLY one week later.

There you have it, I was accepted. At the time I didn't know the position because you have to follow a link in the email. But I was so excited I could barely contain myself.
In the end, I was accepted for the role of merchandising. Which I am 100% okay with. I actually would have been okay with any role.

After you are accepted you have one week to accept Disney offer. This entails a $300 payment too them, but some other small charges (I think it came out to $304.56) Which in non-refundable.
After that you get an email asking you to selected you arrival dates.
Don't get to excited you don't really have free range of dates.

My only opinions were May 12(which is the start of my finals week) OR May 19th, which is the following Monday.
These were my only choices because of the role I was placed in, and the fact the I applied for the fall advantage program which is mid-May or early-June until January.

I am flying down, against my wishes, because I wanted to have my car down there. But in the longer run because I am from New York it would be sooo much cheaper just to fly down there. So my parent will just ship me whatever I need after I know my exact address.

I've watched hundreds of YouTube videos on what to bring with me, or what to expect when I get there.

and everyone has different views on what you should pack to bring with you. So I recommend that you also look into that. Disney does give you a list...but it is not very detailed so study up.

They provide housing, there's four apartment complexes, and you could end up with any where from 3-7 other roommates because they over 2 bed room apartments with 2 people per room all the way up to four bedroom apartments with 2 people per room.

I know this is a lot to take in, so that's probably all for now, but I do plan to keep this blog up the whole time I am down there.

Oh, one more thing. Make sure you pack at least one "dress" outfit for the traditions class you HAVE to go to the day after you get there.

If you have any questions feel free to leave them in the comments.

Have a Magical Disney day everyone.
Kayla!
